Assault rifles are the standard weapon for most players in Call of Duty: Black Ops. With generally good stats at both close and long ranges, the assault rifle is usually a decent weapon in any situation, thus making your playstyle more flexible in battle. While not as good as SMGs at close range or Sniper Rifles at long range, many of these weapons allow you to do a little of both, which is exactly what you need to keep rackin’ up the kills.

The M16 is similar to the M16A4 in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 in many ways. It fires a three round burst with low recoil and high damage, making it a great weapon for medium to long-range fights. Since the burst fire hinders the firing rate of the M16, it isn’t as good at close range than many of the other assault rifles. Since there is no Stopping Power perk in Call of Duty: Black Ops, you need two bursts to kill a player at long range, which can be a bit annoying at times. Overall a pretty solid assault rifle if you like burst fire weapons.

The Enfield is an interesting weapon that is both unremarkable and remarkable at the same time. With moderate damage, accuracy, and clip size, the Enfield is usually a pretty standard choice when you first get into multiplayer. However, the thing that really makes the Enfield shine is the quick ADS speed, which is significantly faster than other assault rifles in the game. While the damage and accuracy is nothing to brag about, the ADS speed can be very useful in many situations, depending on what map you play on.

The M14 is more of a rifle than an assault rifle, and can almost be turned into a sniper rifle with the right perks and attachments. Since the M14 has a semi-automatic firing rate, it is best used at medium to long ranges, rather than close range where it can’t compete with higher dps weapons. With an added grip or scope, the M14 becomes one of the deadliest weapons in the game when used by a skilled player, as it only takes 2 shots to kill an enemy. Best used by players that know what they are doing

The FAMAS, a favorite from Modern Warfare 2, is back in Call of Duty: Black Ops as an automatic assault rifle rather than a burst fire weapon. Featuring a high rate of fire and low initial recoil, the FAMAS is decent at all ranges, and can even stand up to other weapons at close range due to the firing rate. While the damage is lower than other assault rifles, it is much better in close quarters combat, especially on hardcore mode. A good all around weapon, much like it predecessor in Modern Warfare 2.

The Galil is a decent all around assault rifle unlocked fairly early in the multiplayer of Call of Duty: Black Ops. With a fairly large magazine size, medium stopping power, and lower recoil compared to other weapons, the Galil is a great medium-long range weapon. The Galil also has great natural iron sights, much like the ACR in Modern Warfare 2. Unfortunately the lower firing rate and long reload times make it a liability in close range fights, especially against players with high rate of fire weapons such as SMGs. Best used with a Suppressor or Extended Mags in order to make use of its advantages.

The AUG is a pretty decent assualt rifle with a very high rate of fire and moderate damage. Similar to the TAR-21 in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, the AUG must be fired in bursts in order to make up for the pretty terrible recoil after 4 or 5 shots. The high rate of fire makes the weapon great in close quarters combat, but you need to really watch the recoil when aiming at high ranges. Other than that, the AUG is pretty decent all around, and is actually not that inaccurate when used properly.

Back again from it’s debut in Modern Warfare 2, the FAL is a high damage, accurate, semi-automatic assault rifle in Call of Duty: Black Ops. With high damage and a low rate of fire, the FAL is best used with a scope, and is usually most seen in hardcore modes, where the gun can kill with 2-3 shots. The FAL is comparable to the M14, although it performs better at closer ranges, while the M14 has less recoil problems at longer ranges.

The AK-47 features high damage, a decent clip size, and medium rate of fire. The recoil has actually been improved since Modern Warfare 2, and the iron sights are good enough to be used without a scope. Since the AK-47 is deadly accurate when shot in bursts at long range, this is still a very popular weapon in Call of Duty: Black Ops. Although statistically the same as the Commando

Similar to the AK-47 in stats, the Commando has a decent rate of fire coupled with high damage. While the recoil can always be a problem, firing in short bursts negates any accuracy penalties and makes the weapon very deadly in the hands of a good player. Like the AK-47, the iron sights are pretty good without a scope, so depending on your playstyle, you can run the Commando without one.

The G11 is an interesting weapon that is unlocked by getting all the assault rifles in the multiplayer of Call of Duty: Black Ops. The G11 features a huge 48 round magazine and a fast three round burst, making it almost like a LMG in ways. At ranges, the gun acts like the M16 but with less accuracy and less damage. It makes up for this by being much more effective at close ranges due to the faster firing rate and lower recoil
I love the ak and have got using it dialed
ReplyDeleteAwesome stuff. ak is still my favorite
ReplyDeleteYeah Im on BC2. That is where its at. :)

ReplyDeleteOf all the weapons to put in, why the Galil, it puzzles me. It is an Israeli AK clone. Now putting this one into a game is the Tavor (or TAR-21). Imagine this tiny sucker, with a high RPM, shooting the same rounds as the M4. http://www.spareammo.com/posters/israeli-girl-soldier-tavor-mars-red-dot-556.jpg

ReplyDeleteThe gun balancing in this game is a joke. Instead of a making guns with different rates of fire, recoil and damage. They just made two tiers with the same rof and damage. One being better than the other (famaug).
ReplyDeleteNice guide! Time to play some COD i guess haha
