Call of Duty: Black Ops Sub Machine Guns

Call of Duty: Black ops offers a wide range of Sub Machine Guns to take down your opponents with. Sub Machine Guns or SMGs tend to most effective in short range confrontations since they usually sacrifice accuracy for a high rate of fire and faster aiming. This can be good or bad depending on the situation you are in, which makes them excellent for maps with more close quarters combat rather than large open areas. Enjoy.

The first gun available to use in multiplayer, the MP5K has been a standard in almost every online shooter. While not as good as the later AK74U, the MP5K is still a great SMG for close ranged shooting. With a higher clip size and pretty good accuracy compared to the other weapons, the MP5K is usually one of the better choices for an SMG

With little recoil and high damage per second at close range, the Skorpion is a great choice for smaller maps with tighter areas. Unfortunately, the Skorpion is also comparatively terrible at medium to long ranges, which can be a huge disadvantage at times. With a small clip size and high rate of fire, it is also easy to burn through ammo, so keep that in mind as well.

The Mac11 is an interesting weapon, and sort of reminds me of the TMP in Modern Warfare 2. With a high rate of fire and low clip size, the weapon can be annoying to use at times, but most people overlook the fact that the Mac11 has almost no recoil. This makes it an excellent weapon at close to medium ranges, especially with the high reload speed. While this is all well and good, it is still generally worse than the AK74U, MP5k, or Spectre, so most players go with those.

The AK74U is arguably the best SMG in Call of Duty: Black Ops, and is used by literally everyone in multiplayer matches. While similar to the MP5K in many ways, the AK74U is more accurate at range, and has much less recoil. Another reason why so many people use it is because of the wall penetration, which is the same as Assault Rifles and Sniper Rifles, which gives it a huge advantage over other SMGs.

The Uzi is one of the best weapons in the game close range, and works exceptionally well when fired from the hip. Unfortunately it also has one of the highest recoils of the game, making it terrible at medium to long ranges. While the clip size is high, the Uzi burns through ammo quickly and also takes a while to reload.

The PM63 is exactly what you would expect out of a Sub Machine Gun, with a high rate of fire, small magazine size and mediocre accuracy. The main downside to this weapon is the small clip size coupled with the high rate of fire, which means you are almost always reloading. If there was ever a gun that needed Scavenger and Extended Mags, its the PM63.

The MPL is pretty unremarkable in most ways, and remains in the middle tier of SMG’s, performing well, but not great. Like many others in the SMG class, the MPL has a high rate of fire, and generally poor accuracy at longer ranges. A clip size of 32 is an improvement though, and it helps since you burn through ammo pretty quickly with this gun.

The Spectre is one of the best SMG’s in the game, and is usually most players choice of weapon besides the AK74U. What makes the Spectre great is the low recoil and open iron sights which make aiming at medium to long ranges much more manageable than with other SMGs. The Spectre also has a pretty decent sized magazine coupled with a high rate of fire, making it a good SMG all around. While it does not have the penetration of the AK74U, the Spectre is still a great and highly versatile weapon.

The Kiparis is one of the more rare weapons in the game, as you get it as a bonus weapon after unlocking all the other SMGs in Call of Duty: Black Ops. Since it only has a 20 round magazine with a higher rate of fire, it is harder to use without Extended Mags and/or Scavenger. It also has the same firing sound as Decoy Grenades, which can make it useful for tricking enemy players in some cases.

  1. The SMGs are my favorite class of weapon in most games, my favorite out of these is the MP5K, I actually completed an entire level of prestige using only that first class with that gun.

  20. I tend not to look at the numbers behind the guns, but I will agree the AK74u dominates.
